In this unit we learned about muscles and there specific functions and even how they functions. Some essential understanding were structures of the muscular system, how and why do we move and what kinds of movement does that elicit? these essential understanding involve the the structure of muscles from connective tissues and the nerve and blood supply, muscles move based off of sacromeres, when muscles contract the myosin and actin filaments slide past each other to create a long chain of flexing causing the muscle to flex and thus giving movement. We also learned about the specific movements the muscles do and the names for each movement. such movements as flexion which is moving your arm up and down. Along with that we learned the specific muscle groups on the body and which muscles do what, to help us under stand that better we did a chicken dissection, were we dissected a chicken and found different muscle groups in the chicken. Along wit all those thing we also learned about sport enhancing drugs and the effects it has on your body and why people take it, the short term effects and the long term effects of some of the drugs used to help you advance your game. to help with the understanding of that we did a Sports enhancement advertisement, to show how the drug effects the patient and what it will do to you short and long term.
I wanted to learn more about the sports enhancement drugs, just because im an athlete and is curious to see what some players take and what the effects of these drugs are and being more knowledgeable on the topic might help me make better choices in my life. some questions i have is, why do some people have the ability to grow muscle quicker than others, besides the genetics? do you think in the future when people start to walk less and use there muscles less that the human anatomy will change, kinda like WALL-E.
In this unit i felt myself as as a student and as an athlete grow, i understood muscles very little before when working out and trying to improve my personal muscle strength, but now knowing and understanding what is actually going on at a molecular level i have a new profound respect for my body and how i recover from a workout and why sometimes i cant get that extra rep and why i feel depleted at the end of the day. The lab experiences as well as the notes and vodcast all accumulate into my knowledge of the Human muscle system and why we move and how we move, which i feel confident on and hopefully do well on the unit test, fingers crossed.
